SCIENCE IN EVERYDAY LIFE 2019

Science could be defined as any systematic and empirical activity that seeks to gain knowledge of the physical world which produces the same result under different condition . Technology can be defined as that activity which seeks to put this knowledge to productive use.

SCIENCE IN EVERYDAY LIFE

In today’s world, science and technology (S& T) plays a significant role in our daily life. From the moment we wake up till we sleep, science affects our every single moment. Though, the significance of science and technology for society has long been recognised, but its importance has increased mainly in the last 25 years. Due to this, many efforts to inform the public about the nature and role of science and technology is

heightened by governments and other concerned bodies. It will make citizens better informed as well as better able to adapt to the many changes that science and technology have brought , and will continue to bring, to their lives. Science and technology (S& T) have achieved various progresses in medicine, communication and transportation, and thus make our everyday world vastly different from that of earlier generations. Our understanding of electricity is built by science. From the study of static and lightning by Ben Franklin in the 1700s to the invention of the first battery by Alessandro and the discovery of the relationship between electricity and magnetism, science played a crucial role in understanding these phenomena. Science also helps us in communicating through telephone lines, entertaining through our televisions, and in keeping the lights on. Since the first completely synthetic plastic was made by a chemist in the early 1900s, chemistry has come a long way to develop a wide variety of plastics suited "for a wide range of occupations, from blocking projectiles to making slicker dental floss.". Science brings a great transformation in our eating habits. High-yielding varieties of corn, wheat and rice began to be developed in the 1940s which dramatically increased the yield when paired with new fertilizers and pesticides, paving way for the Green Revolution. Such science-based technologies resulted in striking

changes in agriculture , massively increasing the amount of food available to feed the world while simultaneously transforming the economic structure of agricultural practices.
In the 1700s, working of vaccination was shown by Edward Jenner.

In the 1800s, the theory of germs causing diseases was established by scientists and doctors. And first antibiotic was discovered in the 1920s . The impact modern medicine had on global health has been proven in various areas such as eradicating smallpox, preventing nutritional deficiencies and successful treatments for infections once considered deadly. Scientific knowledge can improve the quality of life at many different levels—from the routine workings of our everyday lives to global issues. Science finds usage in informing public policy and in taking personal decisions on energy, health, transportation, communication, defence, conservation, agriculture, economics , leisure and exploration. It is almost impossible to detail the list of many aspects of modern life that is impacted by scientific knowledge.

HOW ARE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AFFECTING HUMAN LIFE?

Science is the base of systematic knowledge, which includes a series of steps to get the possible outcome. ""Science is commonly identified with hypotheses and gives exceptional spotlight on examination."". It brings many advantages to mankind, whereas technology is concerned with applied science and includes process wherein tools and knowledge are used for the study of a particular science. Science becomes an inseparable part of every human’s life. Their every activity is related to science. Various human inventions and innovations or technologies are fulfilling every human being’s need. For instance, cellular phones, laptops, digital cameras, cars, computers, refrigerators, microwaves, televisions and lights are some examples of technology that humans use in their daily lives. Although these technologies provide many advantages, they do have many disadvantages also. Science and Technology is making human beings’life simpler with innovations in every sector, for example, travelling has become faster through cars, airplanes or trains. With the invention of robots and machines, people are making lesser mistakes. Technology saves time and efforts and also provides quality outcomes with high production. "One of the most significant noticeable favorable circumstances of innovation is in the field of medicinal science.". Discovery of various medical or surgical equipment, medicines and procedures are helping in lengthened life span of humans and saving many lives.

Science and Technology can also result in poor communication among people. In face to face communication, non-verbal behaviours provide context clues for the words we use. The Wall Street Journal’s research found and concluded that various technologies used for communicating such as email, texting and instant messaging remove these important context clues, and can cause misunderstandings. Technology is also making people lazy. Many people are already dependent on technology. Children nowadays prefer playing computer games instead of outdoor games. Individuals are likewise confronting security issues, for example, email hacking, PDA signal block attempts, and so forth.Advanced technology has also created large number of cases of cyber crimes, cheating and fraud. And most of all because of the new technology, terrorist threats and internal security issues of a country have also increased. If we use these inventions and innovations in a right way, we are all going to be benefited out of these. However, if the motives of the human beings are not positive, surely they will face the disadvantages of technology.
